"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."

Welcome to our Community!
Epiphany Community Preschool offers a refreshing and progressive alternative to traditional early childhood education and care. At Epiphany we strive to create a close-knit, community-centered, learning environment for your child. We are located in Doney Park, just outside Flagstaff, Arizona city limits, near Silver Saddle and Stardust.
The foundation of our curriculum is focused on the creation of a healthy, sustainable, diverse, conscious, and multi-generational community of teachers and students. Through our daily activities children are made aware of their connection to their primary communities and families, school community, and the greater community of Northern Arizona. Our curriculum values each child as a connected individual that plays an important role in every aspect of the communities they touch.
Our educational philosophy is grounded in an inherent respect for each child as an individual and diverse learner. We are inspired by the philosophies of Free Schooling, place-based education, Montessori, Expeditionary Learning, Waldorf, Homeschooling, Service-Learning, Inclusive education and the idea of democracy in education. We strongly believe that there is no "one-size-fits-all" educational philosophy and individually meet the needs of every child at our facility. Our small 1:5 facilitator to student ratio allows us to provide each child with the individualized attention they require during this crucial period of their development.
Each day the children at Epiphany are provided the freedom to guide the course of their learning through individual choice and the option to participate in organized group activities. Opportunities for exploration, free play, creativity, and art are integrated into the daily schedule. Each class goes on a minimum of one Investigative Outing (field trip) per month. These Investigations provide students with the opportunity to expand their understanding of the community theme for that month and provide them with practical and authentic learning experiences. Students will also participate in at least one service learning activity related to the community theme. A few of the community themes we address are: "Families", "Kids", "Preservation", "Elders", "Food", "Peace", "Disabilities", "Environment","Safety", and "Equality". Examples of some of the places we plan to visit include: nature trails, the Fire Station, the Post Office, Bookman's, community gardens, local schools, and the local Library. At Epiphany the community and its components are seen as an extension of the classroom. If you are open to having our students visit your organization to help them understand its role in our community please contact Stephani.
